FAQs

What will happen when I make an enquiry?- You will be asked what you want to achieve through treatment an describe a brief outline of the issues that you wish to resolve.  You will be given details on how the process works and how to book a session if you wish to, but don't worry - there will never be any pressure to make a booking.

Is it best to have an online or in person session? - This really depends on the individual.  I have found over the years that both are as equally effective.  There are advantages to online, such as less travel time and having therapy in the comfort of your own home, which sometimes allows people to open up more. Online can be particularly beneficial when having hypnotherapy as it induces a deeply relaxed state and can rest straight after the session.  Other people prefer to connect in person.

What will happen in the first session? - Whether your session is in person or online, the first thing I will do is take a detailed personal history, as to gain a clearer understanding of how the issues impact you and to decide on a direction of therapy that is best suited to your needs.

Is therapy strictly confidential? - Whatever is said within a therapy session is strictly confidential with the following exceptions:

If you are at risk of significant harm to yourself or others

If a safeguarding issue needs to be reported.

If a court of law orders the release of details.

In the case of libel against the therapist.

Sometimes therapists are required to speak to a professional supervisor about practise as part of continued professional development in line with governing ethics, however anonymity will always be maintained.

How many sessions will I need? - Although there is never pressure to book sessions, most issues tend to require more than one session regardless of the type of treatment.

Smoking cessation can be achieved in 2-3 sessions, whereas a phobia may take more.  Some individuals attend long term therapy, especially if they experienced a great deal of trauma.  Others attend long term as they wish to continue on their path of personal growth and development.  No two treatment plans are the same.

Can cure be guaranteed? - Reaslistically, no professional can guarantee cure. However, the will of the individual to engage and make changes give higher indications of success.

Data Protection - How is information stored? - According to professional ethics, records must be kept for several years - these records are kept in a locked filing cabinet or password protected file online.  Once therapy has ended and the appropriate time frame has elapsed, the data will be erased.

What is the cancellation policy? - Sessions cancelled within 72 hours will be charged for.
